Orchestra Announcements

Dear Samohi Orchestra Students,

Thank you for your patience.  We have been approved to add another section of Orchestra for this upcoming school year.
This important addition will ensure that our ensembles will be balanced and that instruction at the appropriate level will be
provided.  The classes that we will be offering are:

Chamber Orchestra        (Per. 7)
Symphony Orchestra      (Per. 4)
Philharmonic II               (Per.  2)
Philharmonic I                (Per. 1)
Concert Orchestra         (Per. 5)
String Orchestra             (Per. 3)
Beginning Strings            (Per. 3)

It is terrific that we have so many talented musicians in the Samohi Orchestra family.  Please know that we will be available in
late August for any students who feel that they have made substantial progress during the summer and would like to be heard
again.   On a space available basis, it is possible to advance to the next orchestra level.  Please contact us via email
(
Swenson@smmusd.org) if you would like to re-audition in late August.  We look forward to a tremendous year.

Mrs. Swenson and Mr. Aiello

Please see
Summer Orchestra Postings for a complete list of all Orchestra placements.

Congratulations to all students who participated in Saturday’s SCSBOA Solo and Small Ensemble Festival.  We are
proud of your performances and know that this experience is vital in developing your musicianship.

All students who received a Superior with Command Performance or Superior are now eligible to participate in the
SCSBOA Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Festival that takes place on May 31st at Los Angeles Valley College.
Applications are Due May 16th and all participants will receive this application with their comment sheet and certificate at
school.

Seniors who received a Superior may perform at the Senior Gala.  Additionally, Seniors who received a Superior with
Command Performance may perform with the orchestra at the Senior Gala.

Symphony musicians who received a Superior with Command Performance or a Superior on a Solo do not need to re-

Many thanks to Anita Circenis, Amy Van Pelt, Eve Gordon and Annie Yang who worked at the festival by organizing score
