Timani & The High-Performance Musician
Practice Smarter
Perform with Greater Freedom
Understand the Body Behind Exceptional Playing
Gifted young musicians are constantly looking for ways to improve, but getting
ahead isn’t always about practicing more. In this interactive introduction to
Timani, Dr. Murray will show students and parents how understanding the body behind instrumental technique can help musicians practice more intelligently, develop greater physical awareness, and make more compelling technical and artistic choices.
Dr. Hannah Murray is a violinist, pedagogue, and Certified Timani Instructor whose work connects professional performance, international teaching, higher education, and musician-specific anatomy. She is the Orchestra Director at The Archer School for Girls and teaches violin, viola, and string methods at Mount Saint Mary’s University. She also serves as Timani Faculty with the Musicians’ Health and Movement Institute in Oslo, Norway, working with professional musicians, conservatory faculty, and graduate students.
Hannah has been invited to teach and present at The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, CalArts, Colburn, and national music organizations including ASTA, PAMA, and the Suzuki Association. Her professional performance career includes solo, chamber, orchestral, recording, and international touring work. You can read more here: www.activeviolinist.com
For gifted young musicians who want to go further.
Students will explore practical Timani exercises and discover how anatomy, movement, and musical intention can work together to make practice and performance more effective.
